Starting Up With Web Design

The ability to present visual context to viewers through the internet is called web design. Web pages generally consist of HTML or CSS pages. These pages are view through a web browser or other web enabled software. Some people browse the internet by way of their TV or video game systems. However you view the internet, web pages are what you will always see.

Web pages are made up of codes. These codes are the basic materials needed to make a web page come to life. Originally HTML, Hyper Text Markup Language, was the only language initially used to create web pages. Now, web pages are made using newer codes like XML, CSS, XHTML and Flash. Because of these new codes, web pages are now able to handle media like sound, animation and video.

Because many web pages have advanced or transitioned into the new codes, many web browsers are now set with extra plug-ins to view these sites. Adobe Flash, Java and QuickTime help the viewer see what many web pages have to offer. There are so many ways to design web pages. Most sites that cater to professional businesses have little animation or graphics so that the primary service or product doesn’t get over shadowed.

Most graphic and sound heavy web pages are usually personal websites or more laid back businesses. They make use of these graphical elements in order to catch the viewer’s attention. A few tips to designing web pages or websites are some good ways to begin. One thing to implement is CSS instead of HTML for tables. HTML is a little buggy when it comes to creating tables.

It’s always best not to use frames. While frames can look professional, they can be a pain to keep up with. If you ever change any formatting on your site, you have to basically rebuild your frames since they have a tendency to shift. Also, don’t use “Click Here” as hyperlinks.

Most web pages are truly sought for their content. By writing a good piece of information with your hyperlinks weaved in like your keywords, you can help them flow and read naturally. Whatever content you do put on there, make sure it is interesting to your viewers and that they can read it. Never type in all caps and don’t bunch up your words into one long paragraph.

While it may be fun to create web pages and sites, web design requires good planning and combination of content and graphics to make it stand out. Things like web page coding may take a bit more learning and practice. It’s a good idea to grab a book or take a class on it to learn more.
