Building a company internet page or blog post message in a clear and concise fashion is of course essential to attracting internet traffic. However it is also important to arrange your content in such a way as to communicate to the search engines, what the site really is about. Search engines look for page titles, header tags and anchor links that are consistent with one another and relate to the topic your page is about, so consistency is the main idea to setting up your page.
What is the best or most SEO-Friendly way to compose the page? Keywords are naturally the most important element and should be used in consistent form in the title, headlines, text and if possible – the page URL. Assembling these keywords and phrases into a cohesive and understandable page may seem more difficult that it may appear. However a consistent use of keywords can greatly help the search engines understand the content of your page.
Prior to building your web page, it is useful to consider keywords and plan how you will incorporate them into your page. Once you’ve chosen your keywords for a given page, produce content that not only supports your value proposition but also uses the keywords. This can be a little tricky, but here is a quick process outline and a couple ideas.
Title Tags This might be the easiest way to incorporate certain keywords into your site. Titling your page using a keyword phrase rather than your company name is essential though. If possible, also use your keywords in the URL for your site. Unless you want to attract users that already know who you are and what you do, why would you want to use the company title to attract readers? Instead, use something like “furnace repair in Seattle” rather than John’s HVAC as the title of your page.
Always include the name of the town, city or area when setting the page title. Geographic identifiers are frequently used by folks searching for goods and services in a particular area. So composing a page title similar to “automatic jackrabbits of Indianapolis” would help identify your company as a purveyor of automatic jackrabbit goods – whatever they might be.
Headlines and Header Tags – Using keywords within the headlines in a way that is similar to the way they are used in the title also states to the Search Engines that the title and header content are consistent. The same keyword phrase used in the title should also be used in the headlines if reasonably possible. Think about your keywords prior to designing the graphic layout of your page though, as some keyword phrases are long and might not elegantly fit into a narrow table format.
Developing Content – The common search engine robots visit each page, remember that the robots are mechanical and cannot discern content and meaning. They simply look for common words and phrases. Again, place your keywords strategically within the page text so that the robots will see them and match them to the same words used in the title and headlines. The interesting part to this exercise is trying to incorporate keywords into common language on your page.
To effectively work these keywords into your text, use the editor or the bold tags to set these words off from the others. When the robots visit, they will see that you’ve highlighted the keywords as being a more important part of the text. They will note that the highlighted keyword also appears in other significant forms on your page.
Content construction: Now that you’ve designed your page, you can lay in the text you’ve composed. It is important to keep that text as conversational as possible. This is where use and overuse of keywords and keyword phrases can be awkward, so this can take time to compose. Still, there are some creative ways to insert your keyword phrases here and there.
An Epoxy Flooring installation company in the Chicago area that is using the keyword phrase “Epoxy Flooring” might use a sentence such as “Industrial plant operators have know that Epoxy Flooring offers…..” A company providing sprinkler system installation in the Dallas area would be able to title the main page “Lawn Irrigation in Dallas” and use the same phrase as the first headline as well as in the first line of text. “Lawn Irrigation contractors in Dallas install hundreds of residential irrigation systems each spring..” For searches then containing these keywords, the company web page would be more likely to appear.
These easy guidelines for “on-page” optimization can offer easy ways to improve your search engine ranking and are important before beginning any “off-page” blogging or article marketing work.
